“Just caught eye of a new 7″ on the Barcelona’s DisBoot label. The release feature two tracks from Offshore, a producer hailing from Scotland. It’s the first time I heard of him but he’s already had a release on Stuff Records and is also signed to Big Dada.
Black Destroyer Hill Starts out slow with sparsely placed beats. The kick seems very distant and it kinda feels like an ambient track until the synths drop in. Add in the heavy low end and you got yourself delightful head-nodding piece of work.
Simsalabim! is more uptempo. Again the beat is very minimal and the emphasis is on the lazer style synths. The track is all about the midrange and it’s maddening!” www.lowriderscollective.com
“The 7″ is out on Disboot and whilst both sides are akin to the movements of Rustie and Hudson Mohawke, it’s all about the B side for me; simsalabim. It sounds closer to grime than the afore mentioned Scottish producers; think Starkey’s high-end hooks coupled with the space in Terror Danjah’s production.” pipedownson.wordpress.com
